Is this domain catch-all?
Some domains accept mail for every address, real or not. Enter a domain and we'll test its mail server with an address that can't exist.
10 free domain checks a day, no signup. Unknown answers never count against you in the app.
How the check works
We find the mail server
We look up the domain's MX records. No mail server means no address on the domain can receive email.
We try a made-up address
We ask the server about a random address nobody would ever use, without sending anything.
We read the answer
If the server accepts the made-up address, it accepts everything, and the domain is catch-all.
What the answers mean
- Catch-all
- The server accepts any address, so regular checks can't tell real people apart. Use a deeper catch-all check before sending.
- Not catch-all
- The server rejects addresses that don't exist, so a regular check gives a real answer for each address.
- No mail server
- The domain has no MX records. Every address on it will bounce.
- Unknown
- The server didn't answer clearly. This happens with some security gateways and busy servers.
Questions
What is a catch-all domain?
A domain whose mail server says yes to every address, including ones that don't exist. Mail to a fake address on it may be silently dropped or bounce later.
Should I email addresses on a catch-all domain?
Carefully. Some of those addresses are real people and some aren't. BounceOwl's catch-all check in the app gives a valid or bounce answer for each one, for 5 credits, refunded if the answer is unclear.
How often does a domain's catch-all setting change?
Not often, but it does. We reuse a domain's result for 7 days, then test it again.
Can I enter an email address instead of a domain?
Yes. We'll use the part after the @.
