Check if an email address is real.
Type an address and BounceOwl asks its mail server whether the mailbox exists. No email is sent and you don't need an account.
10 free checks a day, no signup. Unknown answers never count against you in the app.
How the check works
We check the format and domain
Typos, missing parts and domains with no mail server are caught right away, before anything else happens.
We find the mail server
We look up the domain's MX records to see which server receives its mail and who runs it.
We ask about the mailbox
We open a connection, ask whether the server would accept mail for this address, and hang up before anything is sent.
What the answers mean
- Valid
- The server confirmed the mailbox exists. Safe to send.
- Bounce
- The server said the mailbox doesn't exist, or the domain can't receive mail. Remove it.
- Catch-all
- The domain accepts every address, even made-up ones, so this check can't tell if the person is real.
- Unknown
- The server didn't give a clear answer this time, often because it's slow or rate limiting us.
Questions
Is this email checker really free?
Yes. You get 10 checks a day without an account. If you need more, a free BounceOwl account comes with 100 credits, and unknown results never cost anything.
Does checking send an email to the person?
No. We talk to the mail server and stop before any message is sent. The person never sees anything.
Why do some results say a recent check?
If anyone on BounceOwl checked the same address in the last 7 days, we show that result instead of asking the server again. It's just as accurate and saves the server a visit.
Can I check a whole list here?
This page checks one address at a time. To clean a CSV or Excel list, upload it in the app. Duplicates are charged once and unknowns are free.
Is my address stored?
We keep the result for 7 days so repeat checks are free and fast, then it expires. We never send email to it or sell it.
Check your next list before it costs you a domain.
100 free credits with Google sign-in. Pay as you go after that, and credits never expire.
