Upload a list
Upload a CSV, TXT or XLSX file of up to 500,000 rows. BounceOwl finds the email column, removes duplicates and shows the cost first.
To check many addresses at once, upload a file on the Lists page. BounceOwl finds the email column, removes duplicates and shows you the cost before anything is checked.
What you can upload
- CSV, TXT or XLSX files.
- Up to 50 MB and 500,000 rows per file.
- One person per row, with a column of email addresses.
Not sure about the layout? Download the sample CSV. It has the columns First name, Last name, Email, Company and Title. The same file is linked from the Lists page as Download sample CSV.
Upload and start
- Open Lists from the sidebar.
- Drag your file onto the upload box, or click Choose file and pick it.
- The list opens with the status Reading file while BounceOwl reads it and removes duplicates.
- When the status changes to Ready to start, review the summary. It shows rows in the file, unique addresses, the most the list can cost, your balance, and the email column that was found.
- Click Start checking to begin, or Discard list if something looks wrong.
You can leave the page while the list runs. It keeps going, and the results wait for you under Lists.
How the email column is found
BounceOwl detects the email column automatically, by its header or by its content. A header row helps but isn't required. The column it picked is shown as Email column before you start, so you can check it.
Every other column in your file is kept and comes back in your results file.
Duplicates and empty rows
- Duplicate addresses are checked once and charged once. Matching ignores upper and lower case.
- Empty rows are skipped.
- The summary shows how many duplicate or empty rows were found under Unique addresses.
If the file can't be read
If the status shows Couldn't read, save the file again as a .csv or .xlsx file and upload it again. Check that it is within the 50 MB and 500,000 row limits.
Keeping your files
Uploaded files and their extra columns are deleted after 30 days. Your check results stay in History. Download the results file before then if you want your original columns back alongside the results.
